I’ve found that there are a large number of daily tasks that come down to an either/or decision. As in, if you perform the task one way, it will work perfectly, but if you perform the task the opposite way, it won’t work at all. I’ve assembled a few of my favorites here.
Percentage of time time you will slip an unmarked USB cable into your computer upside down: 92%.
Percentage of time that you will try to plug in an electrical device into a polarized wall outlet the wrong way causing you to have to flip the plug the other way: 98%.
Frequency of times I will need to make a new pot of coffee in my communal office coffee pot because the previous drinker filled their cup and left 2 millimeters of coffee at the bottom for the next guy: Very Frequent.
Chances, when putting my slippers on in the dark, that I will slide my right foot into the left slipper: Excellent.
Odds that I will put the wrong sock on the wrong foot with a fucked up pair of Nike athletic socks I own that actually have a left and right sock: 82%.
